The book showcases 101 legal professionals who provide visionary insights on business development, mindset, and achieving success. It also includes practical strategies for attorneys aiming to launch or expand their practice.
Scola discussed his unusual career path where he went from an in-house counsel role to private practice. He details how this trajectory impacted his perspective. In his chapter, ‘Beyond The Pitch,’ Scola stated, “I think the most important thing I learned in-house was the pressures attorneys have on them. They're very different from the pressures that attorneys have in private practice.” He continued, “When you're inside, your pressures really come from the top of the organization, for the most part, and how the legal department interacts with the marketing and the business side and the research side. When you're outside counsel, usually you're getting legal problems, straight legal problems.”
Additionally, Scola provided valuable advice for associates gleaned over his career. He said, "Don't let the fear that you haven't been in this business long enough, and the fact that you don't have this resume of being successful in all these different things stop you." He continued, “Don't be discouraged. I think everybody in this generation, because we get feedback from texts and emails, we expect instantaneous gratification. It takes time and energy to build trust.”
