  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) July 13, 2010 - MALAIKA FOR LIFE (www.MALAIKAFORLIFE.org) an organization dedicated to saving lives and empowering communities ONE bracelet at a time, was both shocked and thrilled on Sunday night when stunning bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding strutted her MALAIKA FOR LIFE aqua, beaded bracelet on-stage during the BET Awards Show "Prince Tribute."

Joining the legendary Patti LaBelle, Spalding dazzled audiences with her skills as she simultaneously saved a life, otherwise lost to malaria, by donating to the organization.

Spalding joined other BET Awards Show performers and presenter prior to the event during the GBK backstage gifting suite, where MALAIKA FOR LIFE educated attendees, took donations for their assortment of colored, beaded bracelets, and gathered signed Fujifilm photos to be auctioned off this summer through an online awareness-initiative.

"We could not have been more pleased with the support and interest of the event-goers," remarked Kristen Kenney, malaria survivor and founder of MALAIKA FOR LIFE. "It was crazy…all these music industry executives and super-stars, like Queen Latifah, Soulja Boy and Lil Jon, giving us their undivided attention and truly connecting with our efforts."

Added co-founder Anna Wascher: "The biggest shocker was when Ron Artest, fresh from his L.A. Laker's Championship and single release 'Champion,' offered to join our Board of Directors. He was excited to get involved and took home yellow and pink bracelets for his daughters."

Other MALAIKA FOR LIFE celebrity supporters include: model/actress Sophie Monk; singer Katharine McPhee; actress Molly Ringwald; SITC 2's Max Ryan; model/actress Ali Landry; actor Frankie Muniz; fashion designer Christian Siriano; and actress Amber Stevens.
