Maine Artists Collective Offers Workshops at Constellation Gallery

The offerings include two to four day workshops on subjects as varied as Flower Pressing to Working with Encaustics to Artists' Books.     Joanne Fitzpatrick offers her hands-on Flower Pressing Workshop beginning Saturday, October 27th and running every Saturday until November 17th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Students will learn basic techniques of gathering and pressing flowers and leaves. The fee is $120 for the 4-session workshop.

    A Pastel Painting workshop is offered by Pastel Society of America Signature Member Carol Santora. This two session workshop is for beginners as no prior painting experience is necessary; just a desire to work in the medium. It's offered on Friday, October 26th and Friday, November 2nd from 9 am to 12 pm. The cost is $90 plus materials.

    Kifa Abdullah, an art teacher in his home country of Jordan, offers a workshop on Art Basics, including art theory, materials, tools and the benefit of art as a hobby. This three session series starts Thusday, Oct 25th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm and runs consecutive Thursdays until November 15th. The workshop fee is $120 plus materials.

    Learn how to bind paintings, drawings, prints, mounted photographs, post cards or digital prints into a structurally sound, flexible book with Anastasia Weigl. She will introduce students to Drum Leaf Binding, a unique technique in book making developed by Timothy Ely, Manuscript Book Maker and artist. The drum-leaf design allows full folio illustrations without reference to the fold. Weigl has taught bookbinding and book conservation classes at USM Bookarts Institute as well as at the Abromson Center and workshops for the Maine Library District Councils. This Artist's Book Workshop has only one session - November 3rd from 9 am to 12:30 and is $53 plus materials. The maximum number of students will be 12 and the minimum will be 4.

    Encaustic painting - or painting with wax and pigment - is an ancient art form dating back to the Greeks that is gaining in popularity today. Chris Reed, who has been working in encaustics for the past eight year, offers a four session workshop beginning Tuesday, November 27th from 5:30 to 7 pm and ending December 18th. The workshop fee is $90 but member receive a 10% discount. Reed encourages anyone who is looking for a paint medium that is relatively easy to learn while at the same time provides a lot of freedom for expressing oneself to take this workshop.
