MADSA Highlights Achievements Over Past Year at AGM

  • (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2015 - The Malaysian Dietary Supplement Association (MADSA) conducted its Annual General Meeting on 14 May 2015.

    The President of MADSA, Eddy Ong, chaired the AGM and advised the members to defer the election of Council Members to the next meeting as there were more pressing issues to be decided on during the AGM.

    Under advise from the Adviser, Dr. M. Rajen, members unanimously decided to accept the proposal to defer elections.

    While tabling the Council's Report on the Workings of the Association the last fiscal month, James Pereira, General Manager of MADSA revealed the following achievements:
    * creation of Regulatory Sub-committee to cater to the regulatory environment
    * creation of Marketing Sub-committee to manage all aspects of marketing
    * sponsorship of a speaker for the National Regulatory Conference 2015 as well as for Continuing Professional Development of the pharmacists at the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau
    * revamp of the website, creating greater interaction with consumers and foreign health supplement companies
    * initiated the development of the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) on Dietary Supplements
    * increased membership by 30%

    Among the projects that MADSA would be focusing on during the next 12 months would be to deliberate and lobby the Ministry of Health on the issue of self-regulation of health supplements as well as to launch the CPG process with the Ministry of Health.

    The Malaysian Dietary Supplement Association was created in 2005 with the aim of advancing the interests of the dietary supplements industry in Malaysia. It also pursues awareness of the public on the health benefits of supplements. Its members consist of local and foreign manufacturers and marketers.
