Madison Learning Center Presents Expert Seminar for Commercial Real Estate Attorneys

  • Bergen-Passaic, NJ (1888PressRelease) May 09, 2013 - Madison Learning Center (MLC), the educational arm of Madison Commercial Real Estate Services (MCRES) in Lakewood, N.J., recently presented an expert seminar entitled "Nuts and Bolts of Title Insurance" to an audience of more than 30 real estate attorneys at Alfred Sanzari Enterprises' Court Plaza South in Hackensack, N.J.

    The seminar, accredited for two CLE credits in New Jersey, was conducted by MCRES' Debra Smith, Esq. and Michael Donini, Esq. The program was designed to enhance attendees' understanding of title insurance by providing valuable information from seasoned legal professionals who possess first-hand industry experience.

    Those in attendance heard about significant recent title insurance cases and claim trends, and gained real world insight into coverage issues of concern to practicing attorneys and their clients. Seminar highlights included:

    -A review of title insurance and the most common claims
    -An overview of title report and exclusions from coverage
    -Understanding the differences between owner's and lender's policies
    -Clearing title exceptions, including liens and other title defects
    -Key policy conditions
    -Underwriting risks
    -Prevalent endorsements for residential and commercial properties

    Mr. Donini is Senior Commercial Counsel for Madison Title Agency, an affiliate of MCRES, where he is responsible for clearing complex title matters, overseeing underwriting activities and rendering title opinions. He is a licensed New Jersey title insurance producer and an adjunct professor in the business studies department at Ocean County College. Ms. Smith is Associate General Counsel at MCRES, and offers substantial experience in all facets of commercial real estate. She specializes in handling complex real estate transactions in New York, and has extensive experience in managing litigation related to title insurance and coverage law.
