Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) December 13, 2013 - Lyon Communities, recognized as one of the largest and most respected privately held multi-family real estate companies in California, has kicked off its annual "Holiday Toy Drive" benefitting Toys For Tots (U.S. Marines).

Lyon Communities is hosting this year's drive to help Toys For Tots reach its goal of raising funds and collecting toys for families and individuals in need in California.

"Christmas should be a time of celebration, joy and hope," said Suzanne Maddalon, Senior Vice President for Lyon Communities. "Our goal is to help Toys For Tots help those that for a variety of reasons are struggling to provide for themselves or their families."

"Additionally, our partnership with Toys For Tots allows our residents to experience the joy of giving during the holiday season," added Maddalon.

Toys For Tots began in 1947, when Major Bill Hendricks, USCR, and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. Since then, Marines have distributed more than 452 million toys to more than 209 million needy children. This charitable endeavor has made U.S. Marines the unchallenged leader in looking after less fortunate children at Christmas. The primary goal of Toys For Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. All of the new, unwrapped toys collected are distributed to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
