  • (1888PressRelease) November 06, 2013 - Arlington, VA -- Lunarline CEO Waylon Krush recently addressed HealthCare.gov security concerns as a guest on NPR Morning Edition.

The failed launch of the Obamacare website cast a spotlight on the vulnerabilities inherent in HealthCare.gov's security architecture. As a guest on NPR, Krush rose above partisan politics to provide a sober, risk-based analysis of known HealthCare.gov vulnerabilities. His comments provided a dose of security realism to this politically-charged national debate.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) made a deliberate decision to launch the Obamacare website despite an internal memo suggesting that security vulnerabilities remained unresolved. However, as Krush explained on NPR Morning Edition, government agencies are empowered "to make those decisions and those tradeoffs. Government systems process, store, manage and review a lot more sensitive data than what your general citizen is going to put on HealthCare.gov, so I would say, from a risk perspective, it's pretty low."

Speaking from Lunarline's headquarters, Krush elaborated further: "The truth is, cyber security vulnerabilities are complex and context dependent. There is no such thing as a 100% secure system. Instead, Lunarline helps agencies like HHS achieve a more realistic mission of understanding, navigating and minimizing security risk to the fullest extent possible."

Lunarline Director of Federal Sales Spence Witten also noted that, "Lunarline has worked with HHS and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for years. Our federal partners at HHS are currently under fire due to the challenges of implementing HealthCare.gov, and its fair to ask hard questions. But let's not forget that they already manage and maintain a robust enterprise security program that has successfully defended the sensitive information of tens of millions of American citizens. We're fully confident that, at the end of the day, HHS is up to the challenge of defending HealthCare.gov."
