  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) March 29, 2012 - KTLA news reporter Lu Parker was awarded a Genesis Award for Outstanding News Feature for the second year in a row at Saturday's 26th Annual Genesis Awards held at the Beverly Hilton.

    The Humane Society of the United States recognized Parker's reporting and creative portrayals of animal protection issues in three stellar segments: Beagle Testing, Alleged
    Elephant Abuse, and Horse Rescue. All three segments were in collaboration with KTLA 5 News in Los Angeles.

    Parker was among a strong field of contenders, and says she was humbled by the recognition.

    "It is always an honor to be recognized for your hard work, Parker said. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to be able to utilize my reporting skills to help bring awareness to animal welfare issues which remain my passion. KTLA has allowed me to share this work and for that I am grateful. I encourage anyone with a platform to be a voice for the voiceless."

    In her spare time, Parker works tirelessly for animal rescue and wellness advocacy. In 2010, she launched Lu Parker Project, a non-profit organization which is dedicated to improving the lives of homeless animals and at-risk youth through education, the arts, and community projects. She also serves as Executive Producer for the show Leashline News on www.petsami.com Her own rescue dog Monkey reports on inspiring canines for the show.

    Every year, the Humane Society of the United States pays tribute to the best in past and present media coverage, and celebrates the progress made on behalf of all animals over the years. The star-studded gala ceremony included presentations by Bill Maher, Carrie Ann Inaba, CW's Ian Somerhalder, and Colby Caillat. The one hour special will air on Animal Planet in early spring.
