  • (1888PressRelease) September 11, 2010 - Imagine 2 times the population of Canada being illiterate. That is the situation in Sub-Saharan Africa. Now, imagine doing something about it!

The Word On The Street is taking literacy one step further this year. The WOTS Festival being held on September 26, 2010 at Queen's Park is assisting STELLAA (Stella's Training, Education, Literacy Learning Academic Assistance) in the collection of new and used books to help build libraries in Africa. STELLAA aims to fill a 26ft Truck with donated books and school supplies.

If your bookshelves bursting at the seams or you just have books you'd like to donate to a great cause, STELLAA will find your books a new home! It's about literacy, not landfill.

STELLAA addresses Africa's hunger for education, knowledge and information that is plagued by the lack of funds and resources. STELLAA's first projects are in West Africa, where illiteracy rates are the highest in the world.

Nevertheless, STELLAA also has a strong focus on promoting environmental responsibility. STELLAA focuses on keeping these "no value" books out of landfills and putting them in hands that need them most.

Please visit www.stellaa.org for additional donation guidelines, drop of your donation at any WOTS Info Booth and visit our booth on Literacy Lane for additional information on how you can help STELLAA.
