  • (1888PressRelease) September 04, 2015 - Veteran HIM professional, instructor and Libman Education Blogger Rebecca Harmon, MPM, RHIA, CCA, is slated to speak at this year's Annual AHIMA Convention and Exhibit on the topic "Journey toward the Complaint-Free HIM Department," on Tuesday, September 29.

Rebecca's blogs for Libman Education commenced with the story of how she returned to the hospital environment from teaching and wanted to pursue her Certified Coding Associate certification from AHIMA. (See the entire series here: http://www.libmaneducation.com/cca-prep-student-perspective-part-1-new-challenge/.) Since achieving her CCA, Rebecca continues to write on issues related to HIM careers and job satisfaction.

Rebecca was invited to speak by AHIMA to provide tools for minimizing the stifling effects of complaining in the HIM workplace. Rebecca will provide participants with measurable, organization-changing concepts that have positively affected organizations throughout the nation.

"I learned from the 'Complaint Free World' program that the average person complains 15-30 times a day -- often unawares," said Rebecca Harmon. "I realized that this kind of ongoing negativity hinders our productivity as individuals, and can negatively impact the HIM department's overall efficiency. My goal is to help HIM departments improve productivity (and more!) by shifting the culture away from complaining."

"Journey toward the Complaint-Free HIM Department" equips attendees to:
    - describe the challenges in engaging and motivating employees in a traditional HIM (or other healthcare) work environment.
    - identify positive steps to take in helping to shift stale/negative attitudes to more positive perspectives.
    - explain how a process like "A Complaint Free World" can be used in one's department.
    - contrast the detrimental impact of negativity and complaining with the benefits of a shift toward the positive.
