  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2011 - For the past 19 years, Jewish Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) has honored leaders who have made a lasting impact in the lives of the community's youth and epitomize excellence in mentoring. This year at The Big Event gala and fundraiser, JBBBS is honoring board member Leslie Kavanaugh as the recipient of the Sydney J. Rosenberg Lifetime Achievement Award. The event will be held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on February 5, 2011.

"We're blessed to have incredible honorees who exemplify the leadership and generosity to enable us to serve 3000 children a year," said Margy Feldman, CEO of JBBBS. Leslie Kavanaugh joined the board of JBBBS 13 years ago. In addition to serving on every standing committee, she has chaired the Resource Development Committee and served as the co-chair of the annual Lifetime Achievement Award Dinner for five consecutive years. Three years ago, she received the inaugural WOW Award at the agency's Big Dreams Luncheon.

"I am honored to be the recipient of the Sydney J. Rosenberg Lifetime Achievement Award," said Leslie Kavanaugh. "My involvement with the wonderful people in this organization has been so rewarding. In working closely with this amazing Board of Directors and the staff of JBBBS for over 13 years, I am constantly reminded that this organization is truly all about the children."

The Big Event is also honoring Big Brother of the Year Doug Braun for his continued involvement with the organization. Doug became a Jewish Big Brother 13 years ago to Josh who was 8 years old at the time. Doug and Josh continue to support the organization where Josh is now a counselor at Camp Max Straus, a non-denominational camp owned and operated by JBBBS on 112 acres in Glendale, CA.

Online auction site Charity Buzz will be handling the auction for the event with items including "The Ultimate Los Angeles King Experience," a 24-person suite at the Staples Center complete with a group photo on the ice, as well as a private makeover with Carson Kressley, stylist on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."
