  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) January 22, 2015 - Lend a Hand Uganda-USA, the national charitable organization committed to facilitating, empowering sustainable change for orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda, has announced their inaugural fundraising event of its 2015 season - "A Night on the Nile", this January 27th, 2015. The evening will be dedicated to fundraising for continued placement of orphans with guardians, and to support, maintain and grow ongoing projects on the ground, including projects like bricklaying, animal husbandry, horticulture, and more. This holistic approach empowers communities, and ensures a successful and stable home-life for these children.

"I founded Lend a Hand Uganda-USA to support Lend a Hand Uganda, a non-profit organization that caters to orphans and vulnerable children. This past October, a team of volunteers and myself planned a trip to check in with our partners (LAHU) on the ground in Uganda. As partners, we urgently need to get more involved and help raise awareness of the struggles these children and their communities are going through. The best way to get involved with sustainable projects is through funding. As a result, we are hosting our first annual fundraiser to help with awareness and to find donors and sponsors for ongoing and current projects, making them sustainable for years to come," said Harriet Zaffoni, founder of Harkiss Design and Lend a Hand Uganda-USA.

The event will begin at 6:00PM on Tuesday January 27th, in New York, NY at Hudson Terrace. Lend a Hand Uganda-USA will be accepting personal and corporate donations and will hold a silent auction, with all proceeds going directly to support ongoing projects and programs. Large-scale photographs by professional photographer Peter Dressel detailing LAHU - USA's projects, beneficiaries, and daily activities will also be up for auction. "Our recent trip to Uganda, my very first trip to Africa, was a life-changing experience for me. The level of poverty we encountered in visiting with the families was astonishing, yet we met with incredibly positive women now taking care of children or grandchildren orphaned because their siblings or children have died (mostly because of HIV/AIDS). The love and curiosity that came from the children in meeting and interacting with me was overwhelming. No one else is looking out for them and I am grateful to be a part of Lend a Hand Uganda-USA's efforts," said Amy Noelle, founder of Sugar Flower Cake Shop and member of LAHU-USA's Board of Directors.

This is an invitation-only event, with a ticket price of $50 for "dessert party" guests, and $150 for the "VIP" portion on the night that will include exclusive access for first half of the event and interaction with celebrity guests, including acclaimed fashion designer Betsey Johnson.
