"We are honoured to receive this award from CDECA," states Laura Stein, Laura Stein Interiors. "It's always exciting and fulfilling to be recognized by peers in the industry. This award acknowledges the hard work we are doing and I am thrilled to be endorsed by such a distinguished organization."

The annual CDECA Decorating and Design Competition is open to all accredited and student members. Competitors upload images of their space and accompanying text to the competition database and the entries are evaluated by an independent panel of judges from across Canada.

Laura Stein Interiors' gold winning space is a beautiful Leaside Master Bedroom designed for homeowners with an appreciation of the finer things. While the rest of their house was a gallery of treasures, their master bedroom had fallen into a state of neglect and was in dire need of an upgrade.

With a mandate for understated luxury, Laura Stein Interiors transformed the outdated, cluttered bedroom into a light-filled area with luxurious linens, a hint of glamour, a touch of masculinity and a place to exhale at the end of the day.

To make the most of the L-shaped room, a floor plan was designed to incorporate a library-like sitting area with a TV on an articulating arm and lots of storage close to the door. The bed was placed under the window to take advantage of the morning sunlight.

"The homeowners wanted a cozy and romantic space with lots of feminine softness but enough masculinity to keep the space feeling grounded," adds Stein. "The carpet was replaced with hardwood, panels and crown moulding were added, and luxurious fabrics in a light, airy palette were set against clean-lined furniture and deep, rich wood tones."

In the sitting area, a cozy library feel was created around a linen sofa, a large tufted ottoman and a recessed bookcase to perfectly display the couple's travel finds, photos and literature collection. The colourful books and art add an unexpected pop to the subdued palette of warm metals and wood accents.

"Careful attention was given to custom detailing and luxurious finishes," says Stein. "The contrasting backs, gusset and hand-applied trim of the pillows, for example, tie the colour scheme together across both sides of the room to create an overall sense of comfort."

Now a comfortable and romantic retreat, the master bedroom has become the most used room in the house. The architectural detail, warm palette, luxurious fabrics and eclectic mix of lighting, art, and accessories make the room what the homeowners call their "perfect little jewel box".
