Launch & Strengthening of TCI Safe Safar

  • (1888PressRelease) October 19, 2019 - As per the government data, every hour 17 people die on the road due to an accident. The number of fatalities is one-third of the number of accidents, which amounts to 53 road accidents every hour.

    To address this serious issue and create national awareness on the subject of safety, TCI Group organized the official launch & strengthening of “TCI Safe Safar” as part of the HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) initiative. The ceremony was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Shri. Nitin Gadkari at the Honorable Minister’s residence in New Delhi on 19th of September, 2019.

    The launch witnessed the presence of over 200 people from the Government, various associations and mediaalong with TCI Parivar members. It also featured a NukkadNatakhighlighting the significance of road safety. The event concluded with the Hon’ble Minister, Shri. Gadkari delivering the key note address followed by signing the pledge banner.

    Commenting on the official launch, Mr. Vineet Agarwal, Managing Director, TCI stated, “With the alarming increase in road accidents, injuries and fatalities on Indian roads, it is important that we take decisive steps against irresponsible driving. Road safety is a shared responsibility and with TCI Safe Safar we are committed to the Government’s initiatives towards road safety concerns in building a healthier and safer nation.”

    Commenting further on the initiative,Mr. Chander Agarwal, Director, TCI & Managing Director, TCI Express said, “Every year, more than 1,50,000 Indians lose their lives in road accidents. Every accident starts a vicious cycle of trauma for countless people, and the Safe Safar campaign was initiated to reduce thenumbers of such accidents through a safe-driving awareness. We have reached out to thousands of drivers across the country, including non-TCI personnel as well. The response has been extremely encouraging, and even the Honorable Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari ji was full of praise for ‘Safe Safar’ and held an extensive discussion with us to identify ways that could promote such initiatives further.“

    With an aim to spread awareness on Health and Road Safety for the entire logistics and transportation community, TCI Safe Safar has successfully conducted 75+ events, covering approximately 7,000 drivers and 9,500 pledges around 40+ cities thus far. In the next one year we aim to reach around 25,000 truck drivers.

    The main attraction of the programme is a specially fabricated, environment-friendly CNG vehicle that is travelling to all parts of India where there are truck drivers urging everyone to participate and take the safety pledge. The initiative is running since January 2019.

    Road safety is a shared responsibility and in our journey we have had great partnerships and associations – Deendayal Port Trust, Kandla; Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.; India Glycol Ltd.; Concor India – to name a few.
