  • (1888PressRelease) October 19, 2012 - Lakshmi Narayan's Bonsai Kitten, scheduled for release on 26 October 2012, is an interesting tale about a girl named Divya who considers herself as a bonsai kitten.

The two terms 'bonsai' and 'kitten' show fine use of paradox and irony. Plants can be bonsai, not kittens; and kittens can be kittens, not humans. But when both words are put together in order to bring them to bear on an individual, her individuality takes on a meaning that takes away something from individuality. It can be stunted and also it can be something like a plaything. That's how she thinks.

To justify her way of thinking, she even has a comparison to draw between her destiny and the metaphor she uses to describe it. For instance, she likens the situation of a girl exposed to the marriage market to a play-dough, which can be twisted and mangled in whatever way one wants to. That's how her sense of being touches the bottom.

However, God has something in store for her which she is quite unaware of. As his divine plan unfolds, she finds herself moving from Delhi to Mumbai to Singapore. Giving her company all the time are tears and laughter, friendship and betrayal, loss and rebirth. It is quite interesting to see her thrust-and-parry with him to regain control of her destiny.

Indeed, Lakshmi Narayan has penned a debut novel that will not only vibrate women but also move men to understand women better.
