  • Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) September 14, 2010 - Wood, a 30-year veteran Economics teacher at Mount Dora High School, said he was honored by the endorsement.

"As a parent, teacher and a proud product of Florida's public schools and universities, I am honored to have the support of Lake County's professional educators," he said. "I will work tirelessly in pursuit of quality schools for our children. This is how we build better communities, a more prosperous state and a stronger America - We do it one child at a time."

Wood, a former Lake County Teacher of the Year and holder of the prestigious National Board of Professional Teaching Standards certification, has been urged for years to run for the legislative seat.

Wood shares credit for his campaign's accelerating momentum with the "can-do spirit" of his volunteers and a growing base of voters from both parties and all walks of life who believe state government needs more common sense.

"This cuts across the political spectrum," Wood said. "Voters are telling me they want to strengthen public education, cut top-heavy wasteful bureaucratic spending and stop handing out huge tax breaks to the wealthy while shortchanging schoolchildren. Florida must stop neglecting our schoolchildren. Our economy depends on it. One reason Florida's economy suffers is because the state's per pupil investment is far below the national average."

Wood believes voters are ready for genuine change in Tallahassee. "More and more people believe government should be practical and useful, rather than bureaucratic and self-serving."

Lake's teacher endorsement of Frank Wood follows endorsements from The Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women, The Florida Education Association, The Florida AFL-CIO and The Florida AFSCME Retirees.
