Lab42 Survey Reveals User's Opinions On Paying For Facebook

Lab42 identifies survey participants using social media and a unique algorithm to target specific demographics.

    When you sign up for Facebook, it says "It's free, and always will be", which is a good warning, because according to Lab42, the majority of Facebook users would not pay to use the popular social networking site. The most active Facebook users are 18 - 25 year olds, 75% of whom log into their account at least two times per day. However, only 20% of this age group would be willing to pay between $1 - $5 per month to use Facebook.

    While 26 - 35 year olds use Facebook less frequently, they are more willing to pay for it than younger users. 52% of 26 - 35 year olds check their Facebook at least two times per day. 24% of users this age group would be willing to pay to use the site.

    The Lab42 survey also reveals gender differences in Facebook use. In terms of usage, women log into their Facebook accounts more than men. 63% of women, and 55% of men, check their Facebook at least twice per day. Interestingly, while both men and women say they use the site primarily to keep in touch with their social network, women would be more willing to pay for it. 24% of women, and only 13% of men, are willing to pay for Facebook. Based on the results of this Lab42 survey, if Facebook started charging users $1 per month, the social networking giant would bring in another $95 million of monthly revenue.
