  • (1888PressRelease) November 23, 2011 - There are many reasons why students might sit down for an interview--Scholarships, graduate studies, internships, the list goes on. Regardless of what the interview is for, an interview can be pretty stressful without proper preparation.

Here are a few tips the Kwantlen Student Association put together to help members.

Appearances: Never ignore the significance of a first impression-it is literally the first thing people notice. Dress appropriately; if it is a job interview make sure your appearance aligns with the company's corporate culture. Make sure your shoes are clean and your hair is done in a neat, professional manner. If wearing makeup, do not over-do it.

Resume: Edit, proofread, edit and proofread it again-a spelling error can prevent you from getting the interview. In most cases, interviewers will have a copy of your resume, but bring in extras, just in case. Make sure you are familiar with what you have included in your resume and remember, you will be asked questions so have some examples of accomplishments ready.

Practice, practice, practice: Feeling comfortable with interviews is not something that happens overnight-it takes time and practice. Because you will encounter different types of questions in each interview you get, it is a good idea to make some practice questions and go over them with friends or family, whoever you feel comfortable with.

Interviewing is a skill you develop over time. Just remember, dress the part, know your resume and practice a lot. But most importantly, be yourself!
