Proceeds from the sale funded the purchase of enough supplies to fill up to six book bags for children needing assistance as the new school year begins.

    The Apex store's customer appreciation day included many other family-friendly events, including a germ-free zone teaching children the importance of washing their hands and instruction from the store's resident Chef Alan Panzer ("Chef Al") on how to prepare tasty after school snacks. In addition, members of the Apex Fire Department demonstrated fire prevention and cooking safety tips, and officers with the Apex Police Department were joined by McGruff the Crime Dog to discuss precautions to take against criminal activity.
