This bike riding event which will be held on May 29th 2011, happens once a year when the length of historic Lake Shore Drive is open for cyclists and closed to auto traffic. The complete route length is 30 miles and the drive opens at 5:30 A.M with a deadline of 9:00 A.M. Individuals who would like to participate need to register on the official Bike The Drive website. If you register before 10th April 2011 you will save $3 or save $10 when you sign up for the ride and an Active Trans membership.

The event is an ongoing effort to make biking, walking and public transportation easier and safer throughout the Chicago, IL region. All riders should display their rider number, helmet number and wristband visibly while bicycling on Lake Shore Drive. Bike riders will be asked to show their helmet numbers and wristbands at checkpoints along the route. The bike ride offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the striking skyline and the shimmering water of Lake Michigan as you cruise up and down the entire length of Lake Shore Drive. After all you will be able to enjoy the car-free Lake Shore Drive on your new bike.
