  • (1888PressRelease) October 11, 2018 - Kim Kardashian West will be honored with the first Gift of Life Impact Award, at the Gift of Life Marrow Registry's Inaugural One Huge Night Gala in Los Angeles on Oct. 29 at the SLS Beverly Hills.

Kardashian West, 37, of L.A., is being recognized for her support for Gift of Life and the “Hope4Adam” campaign, which in 2016 sought to find a matching donor for a young father named Adam Krief, z″l, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of blood cancer and required a life-saving bone marrow transplant. He could not find a match among 20 million people on the worldwide registry, but the campaign stirred Kardashian West, who tweeted her followers to help Adam.

As a result, more than 10,000 new donors joined Gift of Life, and while a match for Krief was never found, her actions led to four donor-recipient matches and one transplant. Leah Mantel Krief, Adam’s widow, will present Kardashian West with the award for leveraging the power of a single person to mobilize many to act.

One of the donor recipient pairs Kardashian West helped connect, a 46-year-old male from Pennsylvania and a 30-year-old male from New York, will be introduced at the gala. Another donor, a 26-year-old female from Ohio, will meet her recipient, an eight-year-old female from Kentucky.

Gift of Life will also present the first-ever Steven Bochco Award, honoring the celebrated late TV writer and producer of such hits as “Hill Street Blues” and “LA Law,” who died at age 74 of complications from cancer. Bochco had originally battled leukemia and lived several years longer, after receiving a stem cell transplant from a Gift of Life donor. That individual, Jon Kayne, 27, of New Jersey, will present the award along with Bochco’s widow, Dayna Bochco, to an individual who exemplifies what Bochco was best known for: vision, innovation and storytelling.

Chairing the gala are Michal and Jeremie Braun of Los Angeles and Norma and Mark Citron of Calabasas, Calif.

Since its start in 1991, Gift of Life has grown the registry to more than 308,000 individuals who have volunteered to donate blood stem cells or bone marrow to save a life. In the process, Gift of Life has facilitated over 15,000 matches for those with a range of blood cancers, resulting in more than 3,300 transplants.
