  • Jacksonville, FL (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2019 - Junior Achievement of North Florida will be celebrating women and girls at the $mart Women Make Change event on Nov. 4. This is the 11th year for this signature event which benefits the JA Girl$ program, but this year it has a new look and feel. Instead of the typical luncheon and program of year’s past, this will be a more casual evening reception focusing on females in business.

“We wanted to make this event a lot more fun with a focus on the female entrepreneur,” said Tiffany Mackey Guthrie, director of development for JA of North Florida. “Women business owners will be featured throughout the venue including two young entrepreneurs. This night will be all about celebrating the success of women and girls and the role Junior Achievement has in helping to shape their futures through economic education.”

The event will include 10 vendors, all local female-owned businesses, including two middle school girls turned entrepreneurs who will be showcasing their products which will be available for purchase. Art students, grades 9 to 12, from the Foundation Academy are creating up to 10 portraits of influential women which will be on display. There will also be tables with activities, live music and more.

Community partners will be showcased, each representing one of the tenets of the JA Girl$ program:
    • Join in helping girls discover a lifetime of opportunities.
    • Affirm and praise girls to build their self-confidence.
    • Guide girls to explore and understand the power of their choices.
    • Inspire girls to open their minds to new possibilities.
    • Role model to girls the qualities and attributes you value.
    • Listen to and honor what girls have to say.
    • $upport girls by creating safe spaces for her to take risks.

$mart Women for Change will be held on Monday, Nov. 4 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Jacksonville Public Library at 303 N. Laura Street in Downtown Jacksonville. During the event, JA of North Florida will present the Legacy Award to a woman who has contributed greatly to the success of the JA Girl$ initiative.
