  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) June 10, 2025 - The Leimert Park Village Merchants Association is proud to present the 2025 Juneteenth Celebration in the heart of historic Leimert Park Village on Wednesday, June 19, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Recognized as one of the largest and most spirited Juneteenth gatherings in Los Angeles, the event brings together community, culture, music, and purpose to honor the legacy of emancipation and the ongoing pursuit of equity.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the official end of slavery in the United States. It commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. As the holiday continues to gain national recognition, the Leimert Park Juneteenth Celebration stands as a vital cultural moment that bridges generations and communities through art, history, and collective joy.

Leimert Park Village is deeply rooted in Black art, entrepreneurship, and social activism. Known as a hub for jazz, spoken word, African diasporic traditions, and political mobilization, the neighborhood offers a meaningful space for honoring Black freedom and cultural expression.

“Hosting Juneteenth in Leimert Park is deeply meaningful for our community. It’s a time for Black people to celebrate our culture, unity, and history—but it’s also an invitation for all communities to come together in harmony,” said Queen Aminah, Head of the Leimert Park Village Merchants Association. “While many young people may not fully know the history of Juneteenth due to gaps in education, this celebration offers a powerful way to reconnect, honor our roots, and show the next generation the strength of the village. We welcome everyone to join us in this vibrant expression of culture, joy, and togetherness.”

Strong civic partnerships and grassroots collaboration have made this year's celebration possible. Councilwoman Heather Hutt, representing Council District 10, has provided essential city support, including permits, tents, tables, chairs, a performance stage, and portable restrooms. The Merchants Association will provide event security and sound system services to ensure a safe and immersive community experience.

The 2025 Juneteenth Celebration in Leimert Park features a full day of cultural programming and entertainment for all ages. Kicking off with a Women’s Drum Circle and Libation Ceremony, the event sets a powerful tone of reflection and empowerment. Attendees can enjoy a diverse lineup that includes:

    A 30-piece Jazz Band
Line Dancing and DJ Sets throughout the day
A dynamic Fashion Show at Sole Folks at 5:00 PM
    Live R&B and Reggae performances
A curated Art Gallery Exhibit featuring local artists

A significant component of this year’s programming is the Wellness and Health Pavilion, spearheaded by Dr. Cherilyn Lee, a respected holistic health practitioner. Dr. Lee will lead sessions focused on community wellness, joined by keynote speaker Dr. Samuel Peters III and a roster of holistic health experts, herbalists, and nutritionists. Free health screenings and mental health resources will also be available.

In addition, the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center, named in honor of the late jazz and blues legend who was a vital supporter of the arts in South Los Angeles, will have designated areas for elders to rest and recharge, including a cooling zone and a VIP lounge.

Community organizations, small businesses, and local artisans will line the streets of Leimert Park, offering food, handmade goods, cultural merchandise, and educational materials to create a festive, marketplace-style experience that supports Black entrepreneurship.

This free, all-ages event invites Angelenos from every walk of life to gather in celebration of freedom and unity. The Leimert Park Village Merchants Association sincerely thanks this year’s community sponsors and partners, including Queen Aminah Clothing, Nappily Apothecary, Sole Folks Community, and the City of Los Angeles.
