  • (1888PressRelease) November 07, 2012 - Jorie Butler Kent, vice chairman of Abercrombie & Kent and founder and president of Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP), was honored with the prestigious World Tourism Award in a ceremony at World Travel Market in London. Kent was recognized for her founding of Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy and its commitment to sustainable tourism by sponsoring grassroots projects "dedicated to preserving natural habitats, protecting wildlife and promoting the welfare of indigenous communities throughout the world."

"It is such an honor to receive this recognition from the travel industry," said Kent. "As I look back over the past 30 years, the projects we have fostered in partnership with local communities and our guests are among my most treasured achievements."

The World Tourism Award was presented on the opening day of World Travel Market by co-sponsors American Express, Corinthia Hotels, International Herald Tribune and Reed Travel Exhibitions. Inaugurated in 1997 and celebrating its 15th Anniversary, the award was established to recognize extraordinary initiatives by individuals, companies, organizations, destinations and attractions for outstanding accomplishments in the travel industry.

Also honored with Kent this year are the city of New Orleans and Oman Sail, which were also recognized for their commitment to sustainable tourism, contributions to tourism development and for transforming tourism during challenging times.
