  • (1888PressRelease) October 17, 2011 - Dubai, UAE: On the 21st October, Breast Cancer Arabia, together with their venue partner Meydan, are holding the biggest breast cancer awareness event of 2011. Breast Cancer Arabia and the people of Dubai will come together at the Meydan to form the Largest Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon. The Guinness World Records™ will witness the attempt and will be able to confirm that the old record of 3,952 people has been beaten and a new record has been set.

"Raising awareness of breast cancer of course is very important. However, not much is done throughout the rest of the year to raise awareness. We decided to hold this event because it's a great way of getting the community together to participate in something very different from the usual events. Also, the nature of the event means that it will be seen across the world for many months after October keeping breast cancer awareness in people's minds. The support for Breast Cancer Arabia and this event has been tremendous,' says Elizabeth Reyes, President, Breast Cancer Arabia.

Also supporting the event is Nokia, and, as Sally Hamandi, Communications Manager, Nokia Middle East explains: "Nokia is about "Connecting People" and a strong believer in being a local company that support the local community. Breast Cancer Arabia is a great opportunity to support a noble cause. Nokia will be offering a variety of its latest phones for the Breast Cancer Arabia event."

The Breast Cancer Arabia internet portal aims to harnesses the power and convenience of the internet in a way that is sensitive to the needs and vulnerabilities of women living in the Arab World. Through Breast Cancer Arabia, women can find high quality information about breast cancer and its treatment, a specialised place to get the right treatment and a support system.
"Lending a supporting hand to Breast Cancer Arabia was an easy decision for us," says Simon Page, Managing Director Life Sciences, Informa Exhibitions, who are also supporting Breast Cancer Arabia's World Record attempt as part of Informa Exhibitions' CSR programme. "Ongoing community awareness is a fantastic tool for prevention and early detection of breast cancer, particularly in this region, which is why an event like this truly brings the issue to the forefront of people's minds."

Pre-registration for the event can be done through www.breastcancerarabia.com or www.facebook.com/breastcancerarabia and and a registration fee of AED30 will be charged on the day of the event. Everyone taking part will receive a t-shirt and baseball cap, (which must be worn for the record attempt), a certificate of participation and have a chance to win a week's holiday for two people to Cape Town, South Africa, amongst other fabulous prizes generously donated by supporters of the cause.

Registration for the World Record Attempt will begin at 8:30 on 21st October and entrance will be through GATE B of the Meydan Grandstand. Participants are asked to bring their pre-registration identification number with them. There is plenty of underground parking and Breast Cancer Arabia volunteers and road marshals will be there to assist the public.
