  • (1888PressRelease) July 24, 2011 - BOCA RATON - Twenty members of the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) of the Jewish Community Foundation of South Palm Beach County recently returned from an eight day mission to Israel dedicated to helping those in need. Chaired by Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLC (MBAF)'s Marjorie A. Horwin and PAC members David Pratt and David Katzman, the team witnessed firsthand the impact the Foundation makes through its funded programs.

Among the many projects made possible by local dollars (directly or through overseas agency partners), the PAC members visited the site of the South Palm Beach County's sister city Kiryat Bialik, including bomb shelters, playgrounds, and senior employment centers. The mission also included meetings with the Mayor of Jerusalem and other government, military and social service officials. Mission participants included PAC members who help build and sustain the Jewish community and the Jewish people by encouraging charitable giving through endowment funds, trusts, bequests, life insurance policies and IRAs. PAC members were joined by five others from the Palm Beach and Greater Miami Jewish Federations.

"The firsthand account of the difference the work and dollars from the Jewish Community Foundation make truly inspires our commitment to the helping the people of Israel and those who are still struggling throughout the world," said Marjorie Horwin, CPA and principal-in-charge of MBAF's Boca Raton office. "With more than 83 percent of all donations going directly to recipients, seeing our contributions support a full range of critical and life-enhancing programs and services is truly fulfilling both personally and professionally."

Horwin and MBAF are active supporters of South Florida's Jewish community. Horwin is a board member, PAC Chair and a member of the Mitzvah Society at the Jewish Community Foundation. She is also a finance committee member and audit committee member of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. Most recently, MBAF provided its Boca Raton office space and telephones for the South Palm Beach County Jewish Federation's Boca West Phone-a-thon where more than $80,000 were raised for the charitable organization.

"MBAF is honored to have one of its principals involved in a vital organization that provides support that will benefit many in our community and abroad," said Tony Argiz, chairman and CEO of MBAF. "Marjorie's philanthropic endeavors speak to her commitment to supporting the community and using valuable professional skills to help achieve her goals as well as the organizations."

The mission of PAC is to educate professionals from a variety of disciplines about planned giving opportunities and to provide a networking forum, promote the concept of planned giving and to educate potential donors about the high rate of return to the community and the individual, as well as help advisors enhance skills through seminars featuring giving, estate planning and financial experts. The Jewish Community Foundation is part of the South Palm Beach County Jewish Federation.
