  • Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) July 16, 2014 - A father's involvement is critical to his child achieving the best in school and the most out of life. That's the message fathers' rights attorney and advocate Jeffery Leving plans to deliver later this month at the Fatherhood & Healthy Families Conference at Howard University.

Leving, along with members of the White House staff and national policymakers, will present at the three-day East Regional conference of Fathers & Families Coalition of America from July 21 through 23. The presenters will offer ideas to engage fathers in the lives of their children.

"The ultimate objective is to end mass incarceration of minority youth and young adults,'' said James Rodriguez, president and CEO of the Fathers & Families Coalition, which sponsors events across the nation throughout the year to promote father involvement.

Leving will speak on Tuesday July 22, offering insights on the role fathers play in executing two of Obama's initiatives: Race to the Top Equity and My Brother's Keeper.

A coalition board member, Leving said the conference is important because the alarming negative consequences of father- absence - increased poverty and higher crime - are compromising the very future of the country. Leving's lecture, Fathers, Keep your Sons in the Race, will address the three ways fathers can improve academic, emotional and physical well-being for their children.

Deputy Attorney General James Cole also will be speaking on July 22. Other speakers throughout the conference include retired Senior Judge Arthur Burnett, founder, National African American Drug Policy Coalition; Ivory Toldson, Ph.D., director, Historical Black Colleges & Universities; and Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee, (D-Texas).
