  • Macon, GA (1888PressRelease) February 07, 2011 - The Jeff Smith Chevrolet Middle Georgia RacersReunion is scheduled for March 11-12, 2011 at the famed Middle Georgia Raceway in Byron, GA. This is the first activity at the speedway in many years and follows a long history of newsworthy events at the historic race facility. Middle Georgia Raceway provided racing entertainment in the 1960's and 1970's including hosting the NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup) series from 1966 through 1971. Winners of those races include, Richard Petty, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, and Bobby Isaac. There was a brief interruption in November 1967 when Federal Authorities found an elaborate moonshine still operating under the race track. The facility also hosted the second annual Atlanta International Pop Festival in 1970 when crowd attendance was reported by some to be over 500,000. Attendees were treated to performances from Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers Band, Proco Harum, Poco, B.B. King and many others. The March event will be organized to recognize all forms of motor sports in the middle Georgia area and welcomes fans, mechanic, car owners, and drivers alike to participate.

    The Jeff Smith Chevrolet Middle Georgia RacersReunion gets under way at 4 PM Friday March 11 with the Georgia Bob's Barbeque feast and Wine Tasting. Attendees will also be invited to participate in The Candle Light Track Walk to share their Middle Georgia racing memories. Gates open Saturday morning at 9 PM to a day filled with children's activities, vendors, food, classic car show, vintage race car show, and an autograph / photo session with the legendary drivers who created middle Georgia's racing heritage. NASCAR Hall of Famer, Bobby Allison is scheduled to appear.
