Jakson will use the technology to manufacture and sell these products in India & overseas markets. The manufacturing of these products will take place at Jakson's Greater Noida Plant and is expected to hit the markets within the next 3 months.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Sundeep Gupta, Jt. Managing Director, Jakson Power Solutions said, "At Jakson, we believe that excellence attracts credibility. In this context, we feel immense pride in being associated with BARC, India's premier multi-disciplinary Nuclear Research Centre. Owing to our ability to offer world-class products and technology in energy sector, we feel confident in defining yet another chapter of growth and leadership with our new line of solar powered water purifiers. We look forward to working closely with BARC in the long-term and develop more products that use non-conventional energy sources for benefit of the masses."

It is estimated that 27% of the villages and 4 to 6% urban population in India do not have access to drinking water. Apart from inadequate supply of water, there is a serious concern about the quality of water, which is severely affecting the health. Over 70% of the water consumed by rural population in India does not meet the WHO standards. It has been reported that 80% of rural illnesses, 21% of transmissible diseases and 20% of deaths among children in the age group of 5 years, are directly linked to consumption of unsafe water.

The standalone solar power purifier primarily aims towards rectifying these issues where clean drinking water can be provided without installing any complex conventional energy source based systems at the remote sites.

Solar Photo Voltaic driven battery-less units for water purification are designed on the sole principle of ultra-filtration, which is a pressure driven process. It is designed in such a way that the surface /well waters containing filterable contamination can be made fit for drinking without any salinity problem. These units work on dead-end filtration mode.

At the same time, Solar energy driven portable domestic Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis System utilizes the principle of reverse osmosis and can normally operate for 8-9 hours on sunny days, which can cater to drinking and cooking requirement of 3-4 families.

Jakson is also exploring the possibility of manufacturing more solar products using BARC technology.
