  • (1888PressRelease) September 27, 2010 - IRIE! dance theatre has received funding from the Arts Council England Grants for the Arts program in support of "Re:Generations - International Perspectives on Dance of the African Diaspora" - an event that will be hosted at London Metropolitan University from 5-6 November 2010.

IRIE! dance theatre and London Metropolitan University are working in partnership with ADAD (The Association of Dance of the African Diaspora) to deliver Re:Generations. The third organisation working with ADAD to present this groundbreaking dance conference is State of Emergency - an Arts Production and Management Company committed to the support, development and profiling of Black choreographers and their work nationally and internationally.

Two key uses of the grant will be to create a video documentary of the conference and also to commission site specific performances for the event. The funding will also be used to pay for two (2) facilitators for the conference panel discussions as well as volunteer expenses.

Beverley Glean, the Artistic Director of IRIE! dance theatre said:

"We're delighted to receive this "Grants for the Arts" award. It's an acknowledgement that the Arts Council recognise the value and importance of this landmark dance conference. Being able to record the conference on film means that the impact of Re:Generations will spread to more than those who are able to attend the conference in person. The recording of this conference will be an invaluable addition to the company's archive of material on African and Caribbean dance."

Re:Generations has already attracted several esteemed artists from across the world including Dr Brenda Dixon Gottschild, author of "The Black Dancing Body: A Geography from Coon to Cool" - winner of the de la Torre Bueno Prize. Dr Brenda Gottschild will be the keynote speaker at the event.
