  • (1888PressRelease) March 04, 2012 - Highly noted legal luminaries gathered in the capital for the for 4-day long Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) 2012 Annual Meet which concluded today. The conference based on the theme of 'Legal trends, thoughts and times' was focused on contemporary legal trends and the future of the legal industry.

    The Meet was inaugurated by eminent personalities, Dr. Veerappa Moily, Minister for Corporate Affairs, Government of India and the renowned Justice Altamas Kabir, Senior-Most Puisne Judge, Supreme Court of India.

    The conference sessions witnessed the participation of a galaxy of global and Indian legal personalities which included- Mr. William T. Robinson III, President, American Bar Association; Mr. Akira Kawamura; Ms. Tanja Jussila, President, Association Internationale Des Jeunes Avocats; Mr. Andre de Almeida, President, Inter‐ American Bar Association; Mr. Shiro Kuniya, President, Inter‐Pacific Bar Association; Mr. Fali S. Nariman, President Emeritus, Bar Association of India; Mr. Anil Divan, President, Bar Association of India amongst others.

    The event saw participation of approximately 1000 delegates from more than 60 jurisdictions of the world. The legal experts had animated discussions on various topical issues which included - Airline Alliances in the New Era ; Legal and Regulatory Disputes in Aviation ; Investment in Dynamic Economies in Challenging Times & Recent issues with cross-border M&A and Private Equity Investment among other highly relevant topics.

    The final day of the conference witnessed a series of eloquent debates and stimulating discussions on a series of subjects like 'The challenges of effective arbitration; Free trade agreements in Asia and Trade and developments in maritime law'. Indian legal experts significantly value added to the various sessions along with their international counterparts.

    The high note of the concluding session was the formal appointment of Mr. Lalit Bhasin as President of IPBA by Mr. Shiro Kuniya. Appointing Mr. Bhasin as President, Mr. Shiro Kuniya said- "We are delighted to appoint Mr. Lalit Bhasin as President of IPBA and we are confident that he will carry forward the good work and take the lead in moving the goal post of the Association's contribution to the legal profession."

    Expressing his happiness on the appointment, Mr. Bhasin said- "I am honored to be appointed as the President of IPBA and I look forward to fulfilling this new role and responsibilities with dedication & enthusiasm."
