  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) January 01, 2014 - Giving back is just part of doing business for Inserra Supermarkets. Continuing the company's charitable mission focused on fighting hunger and promoting healthy communities, ShopRite of Ramsey made a substantial donation of non-perishable food and beverage items in support of West Bergen Mental Healthcare's holiday food drive.

All donations collected by West Bergen Mental Healthcare will be distributed toThe Center for Food Action (CFA), which provides emergency food packages, homelessness prevention, and rental and utility assistance to thousands of individuals and families in Northern New Jersey. Last year, the CFA distributed more than 67,000 emergency food and holiday packages.

"Every year during the holiday season we do something as a company to give back to the community, and this year our staff members decided on a food drive," said Michael Tozzoli, CEO of West Bergen Mental Healthcare. "When Inserra heard about the food drive, they immediately called and wanted to 'up the ante.' They went far beyond matching to actually tripling the number of donations our staff already had collected. We are grateful and fortunate for Inserra's support in making this event a success."

West Bergen Mental Healthcare was founded as a child guidance clinic in 1963. It has since expanded to provide comprehensive mental health services in more than 20 specialties from locations in Ridgewood, Ramsey and Oakland.

Inserra actively is engaged with a number of causes in the communities where its stores do business, according to Lawrence Inserra Jr., company president and CEO. "Inserra is known for its friendly service and community support, and this donation to West Bergen Mental Healthcare is just one way of doing our part to help others this holiday season," he said. "Many people today have trouble providing adequate meals for their families. Hopefully this donation will fill some of these needs in our community."

Established in 1954 by Patsy Inserra as a privately held business, Inserra Supermarkets is committed to its roots as a family-owned grocery chain committed to serving families and children. Today, the company owns and operates 22 ShopRite supermarkets located in Bayonne, Columbia Park, Emerson, Fair Lawn, Hackensack, Hillsdale, Hoboken, Jersey City, Lodi, Lyndhurst, New Milford, Northvale, Palisades Park, Passaic, Ramsey, Wayne and West Milford in New Jersey; and in Rockland County, N.Y. in Garnerville, New City, Stony Point, Tallman and West Nyack.
