- Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) June 10, 2025 - Angela Calzone, President & CEO of Inroads to Opportunities was a recent guest on “The Hart & Hustle” podcast.
Inroads to Opportunities is a Union County, NJ, based non-profit, social services agency that provides programs and services to individuals with disabilities ranging in age from 16 to retirement. As the largest skills training program for individuals with disabilities in New Jersey, Inroads offers vocational preparation, transition from school to work, job placement and coaching, certificate training programs, day habilitation, and mental health services.
In a wide-ranging conversation with Host Keenan Hart, Calzone discussed the importance of Autism Awareness. “It’s beginning to affect a good part of our population,” she said, “This is at an epidemic level. Everyone knows someone who is affected by autism. Especially in the region of the country we are in…we have the second highest rate of autism cases in the country.”
Additionally, Angela spoke of the opportunities at hand when advocating for awareness. “We work very collaboratively with each other. Information sharing is critical. There's a lot of reciprocity and I think it is crucial that we’re all in the know. This way we can band together and make our case to local politicians and to those who make the rules…it's important for our medical community to understand; our law enforcement, etc. I think that education, overall awareness and exposing each other to autism is vital for our success.”
Calzone further emphasized how the change in language of the community is essential to how we navigate the future. She stated, “It re-defines the individual…At Inroads, we work with not only those who are neuro diverse, but those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well…we look at the community at large and then the microcosm of the community which are the folks that we serve. Truthfully, they are all a part of the community. It's incumbent on all of us to be able to make sure we are agile and flexible as a society to be able to effectively communicate, educate, employ and retire the entire population successfully and productively.”
