  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) November 01, 2023 - Inroads to Opportunities, a Union County, NJ based non-profit human services agency, that provides programs and services to individuals with disabilities hosted a Casino Night and Awards Presentation Ceremony to celebrate National Disabilities Employment Month. All proceeds from the night went directly towards supporting Inroads programs and services.

    In celebration of National Disabilities Employment Month, this event shone a bright light on the vital need for employment choice for all! In addition to applauding the men and women with disabilities whose work helps keep the nation’s economy strong; Inroads honored political and community leaders for the advocation and work they do to improve society.

    Receiving Certificates of Appreciation were Senator Joseph P. Cryan and Union County Commissioner Sergio Grenados with the Champion of Change Award. Mayor Donald Shaw (Roselle) and Councilwoman Denise Wilkerson (Roselle) were awarded the Making Inroads Award. Melissa Menkin was awarded the Community Partnership Award. Karen Dooner received the Unsung Hero Award. Michele Ford was honored with the Staff Lifetime Achievement Award. Arnold W. Rintzler, (Posthumous) Member, OCUC Board of Directors was recognized with the Impact Memorial Award.

    Since 1959, Inroads to Opportunities, formerly the Occupational Center of Union County, has provided programs and services to over 400 individuals each year with all types of disabilities and ranging in age from 16 through retirement – many of whom are economically disadvantaged.
