Inroads to Opportunities is a Union County, NJ, based non-profit, social services agency that provides programs and services to individuals with disabilities ranging in age from 16 to retirement. As the largest skills training program for individuals with disabilities in New Jersey, Inroads offers vocational preparation, transition from school to work, job placement and coaching, certificate training programs, day habilitation, and mental health services.
In conversation with Hosts Dr. Paul Banks and Jim Mooney, Galarreta spoke on the significance of Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month. Inroads is a special part of the community and the support they receive greatly benefits the participants of their many programs. Galarreta stated, “We do a lot of activities. Including last year, we had our first annual Different Abilities field day which provided insight and services to not just participants at Inroads, but to the community as a whole…”
Galarreta also addressed how the organization assesses the success and impact of their autism programs. Inroads sends out surveys to “the families, to the providers we work with, and other vendors to get feedback on how we’re doing, how they feel the service is from their end.”
Additionally, she continued, “In regard to the participants themselves, all of our individuals have a vocational counselor that works with them on establishing and meeting specialized, measurable smart goals.”
According to Angela Calzone, Inroads, President/CEO, “Inroads’ goal in celebrating Autism Awareness Month and other dates of significance that bring attention to the challenges and contributions of individuals with disabilities is to share stories, increase awareness, dispel myths, and help to create a world where everyone regardless of ability has the opportunity to thrive and live their best life!”
