  • Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) October 27, 2010 - Only 106 hours later, the Cowan-Brown family joined Ty Pennington in yelling those famous words, "Move that bus!" just before the family captured their first glimpse of their new home, built by Hallmark Homes and thousands of community volunteers, including American Idol winner, David Cook.

"It's hard to believe it's only been a year since we were selected for this life-changing project," says Paul Schwinghammer, president of Hallmark Homes. "A day hasn't gone by that I haven't thought of the experience we had helping the Cowan-Brown family and organizing thousands of eager volunteers while racing against the clock to finish in time. It was a humbling testament to how giving Hoosiers are."

The Cowan-Brown family desperately needed a new home that was free of an extreme mold infestation, but Andy and Heather Cowan were unable to rebuild their home on their own, as they were already struggling to support their four children on wages earned as factory workers. Their youngest child, Kori, battles a congenital blood disease, which was aggravated by the environmental conditions in the family's former home, and had already received 17 invasive operations before Ty Pennington knocked on the family's door last October.

This summer, Kori underwent another surgery, but this time she was able to come home to a place of peace and healing. "This time it was different," says Heather Cowan in a recent thank-you letter to Hallmark Homes, "there was no keeping her quarantined from parts of the house that wouldn't let her heal. It was a wonderful thing just to be able to focus on her."

"Our home still takes my breath away," continues Cowan. "I never would have sat down and described this as my dream home. It is much more than my dreams!"

Hallmark Homes was chosen by ABC, in part, because the local builder has distinguished itself as a top Indiana home builder (2009 Indianapolis Business Journal). In business for over 18 years, Hallmark Homes has received numerous accolades for its work and commitment to customer satisfaction.

To celebrate the custom home built for the Cowan-Brown family, Hallmark Homes has released numerous volunteer videos on YouTube about its experience on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." To learn more about Hallmark Homes, visit http://www.hallmarkhomes.com.
