Independent Record Labels are continuing to grow despite any economic recession

The entertainment industry might have had slow spending trends due to tighter budgets, but the independent music label still pushes forward.

During this time of financial stress around the world where public spending on entertainment has suffered the past 5 years, there are some smaller independent record labels that will not stop the effort to continue to do what they love.

Take Upset Records an independent Hip-Hop/Rap record label based out of Denver, CO. with national distribution and global digital distribution. Since so many national chains have closed over the recent few years; such as Tower Records and Warehouse Music and Circuit City; the remaining chains with strong buying power have stopped placing orders for any artists except for those on top selling major labels with large marketing dollars to push sales. Even the largest recent releases whether from Eminem or Rick Ross are being released and sold by the major chains for Under 10$.

How can smaller distribution companies or record labels compete with that pricing? Upset Records corporate officers and recording artists have increased their own businesses to fund the label until the market improves. Ray Ray; an Upset Records Recording Artist with two new releases featuring artists like E-40; is the CEO of his own telesales company in Lakewood, CO. He employs approximately 50 people full time and just expanded to a 6k sq. ft. office and call center. When he is not in the office running the business, he is in the labels Recording Studio or promoting his new releases.

Even with newer additional revenue sources such as Ringtones, Music Video's and Digital Distribution through iTunes, Amazon.com, Napster and more, there is still a very slow buying trend when it comes to music.
