  • Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville, FL (1888PressRelease) March 06, 2013 - ISC-Audubon, a non-profit coalition of sustainability advocacy organizations and initiatives that includes The International Sustainability Council (ISC), Audubon Lifestyles, Audubon Outdoors, Planit Green, Broadcast Audubon, and the Audubon Network for Sustainability is pleased to announce the inaugural ISC-Audubon EcoGolf Celebrity Tournament being held April 5-7 at the Westin Diplomat Golf Club in Hollywood, Florida.

Although this will be the first tournament that ISC-Audubon will be involved in, the EcoGolf Celebrity Tournaments Series has been around for a few years. Originally produced and coordinated exclusively by EcoEvents Group based out of South Florida, previous EcoGolf Celebrity Tournaments have been held in Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Spain, for the benefit of a wide range of youth charity organizations.

ISC-Audubon and EcoEvents Group partnered together to co-produce the EcoGolf Celebrity Tournament Series in the winter of 2012, and have since turned the partnership into a great success.

The previous Celebrity Tournament benefited Operation Smile, a non-profit organization that provides safe effective reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate. The upcoming ISC-Audubon EcoGolf Celebrity Charity Tournament will provide funding for establishing outdoor classrooms through the ISC-Audubon Spreading the Seeds of Sustainability Campaign called Nature Discovery Gardens, but also benefit the Southern Florida Make-A-Wish Foundation and their efforts to provide much needed assistance for young people and their families in times of great need.

"ISC-Audubon EcoGolf Celebrity Tournaments has made a sincere commitment to support a variety of sustainability and youth-related charities," according to EcoEvents Group founder and Celebrity Tournament Coordinator Lucia Anreus-Hall. "We are not just organizing a fun event for celebrities and golfers to attend, but have also created a great opportunity for individuals from all walks of life to support some truly great and worthwhile charities."

In addition to the charitable contributions made, the tournament itself is an example for other golf tournaments or events that strive to be eco-friendly. The tournament series is held only at golf courses and facilities that are managed in an environmentally-friendly or sustainable manner, and especially by those facilities who have taken steps to become certified through an environmental or sustainability-focused certification program such as those who choose to participate in the ISC-Audubon Sustainable Golf Facility Program. In addition, the coordinators have also made a commitment to be carbon neutral, and will be offsetting their carbon footprint by planting over a hundred native trees at Oleta River State Park, Florida's largest urban park, located only five miles away from the Westin Diplomat Golf Course.

The EcoGolf Celebrity Tournament is more than just a golf event, and the golf tournament itself is only one aspect of the three day event taking place. The first night includes a Celebrity Dinner and Auction that will benefit charity.

A snapshot of the celebrities who will be participating in the event includes (among others) actor Kevin Dillon, actor Danny Masterson, baseball great Sammy Sosa, actor Richard Kind, Big Break Atlantis star Aubrey McCormick, NFL quarterback Cam Newton, actor Anthony Anderson, and San Francisco 49ers tight-end Vernon Davis who played in this year's Super bowl.

ISC-Audubon Executive Director Eric Dodson said "We are very excited that over 30 television and film stars, and sports and broadcast celebrities have agreed to participate in our inaugural ISC-Audubon EcoGolf Celebrity Tournament. Now, over a hundred lucky golfers will have the opportunity to tee it up with the celebrities, and have some fun while benefiting some truly great causes."
On the last day of the three day event, ISC-Audubon is organizing the EcoKids Golf Clinic where celebrity golf professionals instruct youth on the basics of golf and kids learn about being environmentally friendly.

To participate in the EcoKids Golf Clinic, kids from the South Florida Region are asked to study and learn about the Florida State butterfly and then to write a composition, accompanied by a hand drawn image of the butterfly - the Zebra Longwing. Kids who submit their story and art will be entered into a drawing, and fifty kids will be selected to join in on the fun at the EcoKids Golf Clinic.

A presentation will be given by ISC-Audubon on the nature, turf and lakes around the Weston Diplomat's Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certified Golf Course, and instructors will take the kids to strategically picked locations on the golf course grounds to place butterfly eggs.

Ronald G. Dodson, Chairman of the ISC-Audubon EcoGolf Celebrity Tournament Series said, "Having worked in the golf industry for over 25 years, it is very exciting to finally have the time and opportunity to be involved directly in a golf tournament series that will not only provide for a fun experience for those that attend the tournament, but to generate much needed funding for environmental education in schools that are all facing serious budget shortfalls and to directly help children and their families during times of great stress brought about by serious personal health issues. Clearly these EcoGolf Tournaments are opportunities for golfers and everyone involved with golf to be involved in some actions that are beyond golf, but clearly connected with the environmental and social need aspects of sustainability and have great fun in the process."
