In the County of Los Angeles alone reside over 3.5 million immigrants. "We invite everyone to look to your right and to your left and applaud the countless beautiful immigrants that make up our diverse community doing good. In today's climate the need for more positivity and identity pride needs to be shared ." said Irma Resendez, Founder and Executive Director of Familia Unida. The diversity of immigrants are also an intergrated makeup of Familia Unida, from the board of directors, volunteers and those served.     "La Plaza de Cultura de Artes" historic museum and cultural y arts center with respect and beauty brings awareness to the past, present and future immigrants that proudly serve our community located in the city of Los Angeles. References as a place for the young to learn of their ancestor contributions and a capsule of memories that embodies the struggles, courage and accomplishments of Mexican Americans . The first organization to receive the Familia Unida "Heritage Award" and is the premier location selected for the first immigration celebration awards ceremony. La Plaza opened its doors in Los Angeles California, in April 2011. The museum is near Olvera Street located in the Los Angeles Plaza Historic District, also called El Pueblo de Los Angeles.

    Rafi Pitts, Worldwide Recognized Writer, Actor and Director films have attained acclaimed awards around the globe. Rafi, touches our soul with his heartfelt true stories about immigrants who serve in the US military and desire to become an American as told in his recent film "Soy Nero - featuring Johnny Ortiz a green card soldier". This film earned Rafi the best film award at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival and the 12th Bucharest International Film Festival. Mr. Pitts, gentle spirit and passion for capturing truth and encouraging audiences to be united and too have a voice has earned him the Familia Unida "Peace Award".

    Rafi was born in Mashad, Iran. He spent his childhood in Tehran, where he lived in a basement flat underneath a post-production studio. He came to England (his father is English) in 1981 during the Iran Iraq war. Rafi graduated from the Polytechnic of Central London with a BA (Hons) degree in Film and Photography. His first short film, In Exile (1991) was presented the same year at the London International Film Festival and many more exceptional films produced in between. In 2006 he was nominated for the Golden Bear award of Berlin Film Festival for his film, it's winter.

    Sergio G. Hernandez, M.S, born in Mexico City and has lived in the United States since he was 2 years old. Sergio is a dedicated volunteer at Familia Unida that began during his pre-teenager years. He continues to serve as a mentor, an example for all that dreams can be your reality. A immigrant, DACA student, received a Masters in Higher Education from California State University Fullerton on a full scholarship, earned his Bachelors with a concentration in Political Science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Currently he is a program director for City Year of Los Angeles a national organization supporting and closing the gap in the educational pipe line. Previously he worked for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund assisting parents and students on how to prepare, plan and be successful with higher education.

    Sergio is a exemplemary advocate for immigrants, civil and human rights for all and merits the Familia Unida "Inspiration Award" who one day aspires to be a United States Citizen as this is his home and the only home he knows.

    Special musical guests Voz de Mando (the first ever regional Mexican band win an iHeart radio award) will perform their hit single "Levantando Polvadera" before the awards ceremony.
