IIIT Delhi to host Research Showcase 2015 and bring together R&D pioneers of today with leaders for tomorrow

  • (1888PressRelease) March 13, 2015 - RS '15 will not only showcase some of the exciting research and development work of the students of the institute but will also bring together experts from the industry and academia alike on a common platform.

    IIIT Delhi Research Showcase, strives to put research and development activities in information technology and electronics and communications engineering into spotlight while leveraging IT in particular domain areas. Latest innovations from research groups at the institute in various areas of interests like Security and Privacy, Circuits and VLSI, Mobile Computing, Communications and Signal Processing, Theoretical Computer Science and more will be on display. Outstanding course projects by students as part of their curriculum will also be showcased at the event.

    All roads for technology savvy individuals will lead to the IIIT Delhi campus on the 13th and the 14th of March as the event welcomes industry and professionals, tech enthusiasts, faculty members and students from other institutes, young IT engineering aspirants and even curious, inquisitive parents and mid career professionals, year after year throng the 25 acre campus in the heart of Delhi. In India the research ecosystem and culture is still a work in progress and needs augmentation. In academic institutions we often focus almost exclusively on teaching and in corporations mostly on delivery. Doing good research is hard; building a strong research eco system even harder. "Research Showcase is our little contribution to strengthening the research ecosystem and culture in the country by celebrating research contributions by students, faculty, and others. I hope the event will generate excitement about research among attendees, who I hope will also go back with some new ideas and knowledge", says Prof. Pankaj Jalote, Director of IIITD.

    IIITD, remains the country's leading institute for IT education and research and adding another feather to it's cap it also now has a new exciting space which encourages IT startups, innovation and entrepreneurship. The incubation centre offers technology startups essential services delivery gratis contributing to a more empowered #DigitalIndia.

    Speaking on the occasion Prof. Pankaj Jalote the Founding director of IIITD conveys his sense of pride and his firm commitment to research and innovation in the IT domain. At the institute we aim to develop students so they are well prepared for high end engineering careers higher studies and a strong research career entrepreneurship and innovation, says Prof. Jalote, himself an industry vetran, having led Infosys in a sr. leadership role and a prominent acadmicain in the domain. Research and devlopment remain at the core of the institute , having created a world-class research-led university of higher education in IT and allied areas, Prof. Jalote is now working hard through it's thriving UG and PG programs to make India a globally respected giant for research and education.     Invited Research Talks will be a part of activities where noted speakers from academia and industry will present their research on new age technologies.

    The Poster Session will showcase peer reviewed published work of students. IIIT Delhi has invited entries with a 250 word abstract that defines the motivation and outcome of the work. Top researchers from academia and the industry will judge the work on its merits. Participants will be vying for the coveted Best Technical Poster and Most Innovative Idea awards.

    A new event, Hardware Hackathon has been introduced at RS '15 and it will offer an opportunity to undergraduate/graduate students to display their hardware design talent. The activity encourages team work amongst students as well and they will put their best foot forward to win awards like fastest prototype, most fun and viewers' choice projects.

    Byld, the software development club of IIIT Delhi will host Byldathon that offers space for designers and developers to showcase their talents. High on energy and bursting with ideas, young minds will spend 16 sleepless hours in creating an app that will stand out from the others. There are well earned bragging rights to be won after an eventful night.

    TechQuiz is another popular activity at the two day event and will test participants on their knowledge of algorithms, programming, science and more. Elevator Pitch allows participants to showcase their R & D effort to the world. Overall, the two day event will bring together tech inclined minds, who will show how research adds value to the community. The Showcase will also include a new event this year- the #ElevatorPitch. This will be a minute long opportunity to convey why your startup holds the promise of the future and is worth investing. There are attractive cash prizes also to be won which come as the icing on the cake in addition to academic recognition of these young engineers.

    This edition of the research showcase is being coordinated by Dr. Saket Anand, Assistant Professor, IIITD and he believes each IT enthusiast and expert must visit the showcase because research groups that have emerged at IIITD are now creating technology that not just adds value at the national level but also impacts the international research community. And will also feature an Open House where all stakeholders are invited to engage with the students, Phd scholars and faculty members about the courses offered and the programs they may pursue. The industry is also invited to discuss collaborative oppurtunites of research. The open house is being led by Dr. Astrid Kiehn, Associate Professor , IITD and the undergraduate Chair.
