  • (1888PressRelease) August 12, 2010 - Leadership and Management are crucial to individual and organizational success in today's challenging global environment. Leaders conceive and initiate strategies that create and sustain competitive differentiation and advantage. Recognizing the importance of leadership and management for any businesses, students of IFA's Masters in Fashion Business are given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and make confident decisions through the program's Retail Management module.

Facilitated by Peter Hunter, specializing in retail management and training the module aims to examine the key methodologies behind merchandise marketing as well as operational and performance management. Mr. Hunter, who joins IFA with over 20 years experience in the industry, has the unique ability to share his experience with the students in a clear and motivating manner.

Over Mr. Hunter's class it was encouraging to see how interactive and dynamic the course was. Mr. Hunter provided the young professionals both theory and practical examples on how to operate and lead a team effectively. The goal of today's class was to confront the students with a real situation in the professional environment through 'role-plays'. Students were divided into two groups - team managers and team members with each team manager being given an issue to raise with a team member. Such work issues ranged from lateness, inappropriate work attire to conflict between team members. Each student playing the role of team manager was asked to demonstrate with their team member how they would manage their issue followed by feedback from the instructor and students.

Participation in activities such as role-play allows students to make decisions, think critically and problem solve. And as I witnessed during this activity, they were also able to receive feedback providing them with insight as to how to improve communications to produce more likeable results.

IFA's Masters Program in Fashion Business is designed to develop fashion professionals to become leaders in the industry. The Masters in Fashion Business is committed to providing an excellent fashion education with 6 months study in Shanghai followed by 3 months in Florence. The program aims to reflect the breadth of opportunity available in this vibrant industry and is a good choice for fashion professionals who wish to pursue a career as Brand Manager, Buyer, Product Development Manager, Marketing Communications Manager, Visual Merchandiser, Strategic Marketing Analyst or Retail Network Manager.
