  • (1888PressRelease) May 07, 2019 - So there I was; I had just purchased the last set of Super Dungeon Explore minis I could get my hands on. Just like any other day, I checked their Kickstarter to see if there was any news about when the newest set was going to be released. It was that moment I saw an article that they may not be releasing the newest edition at all.

But wait, I had only just gotten a taste of that amazing Chibi adventure! I had a D&D campaign coming up and I knew the chibi anime style was exactly what I was looking for. So, of course, I did what any sane person would do: I downloaded blender and began watching 3D modeling tutorials.

At this time, I wasn’t very good. My first completed mini took me over a month to complete (compared to a few hours now). She had every issue you can imagine. Her proportions were messed up, her details were too small to 3d print, and she had the face of one of those blue dudes from the movie Avatar.

I reached out to my local 3D printer and asked how much it would cost to have her printed. $30?! I wanted to design and print my entire party, and I wasn’t about to spend $150 on five figures. Once again the sane person, I instead spent $800 on my first 3D printer. Don’t check my math, I assure you it’s correct.

Since then, my passion and artistic talents have exploded. I created these first 10 minis knowing I wanted to do -something- with them, and Kickstarter seemed like a good answer. I have two goals in all of this. First, to be able to afford new printers, new software, and new tools like a drawing tablet, and second, to one day use these minis to create my own board game.

I’m a firm believer in trying something out before you buy it, which is why I’ve uploaded several designs for you to print for free on Thingiverse. Just search Hyper Minis!

I hope my minis will bring you as much joy as they bring me, and I really appreciate you taking the time to read this!

    Zack.
