  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) June 07, 2014 - Early on a Friday morning in April, in a small North Hollywood dance studio, a group of 20 artists, who are part of a class called Dance for Artists (DFA), sat and listened to their teacher, Kristi Slager, explain the upcoming month's choreography choice. The class is used to learning and performing routines, of various styles and genres, however, this month was different. Slager explained her overwhelming need to stand up and use their artistry to help promote change in the wake of the kidnapping of the Nigerian school girls.

She said that upon hearing the atrocity, she sat, feeling helpless and wondered, "what can I possibly do?" Then, the idea for a dance came to her and she recalls, "I realized I can at the least use my resources as a dance teacher and speak out through what I know. And maybe, just maybe, others will join me… and we will be heard. Perhaps we can continue the conversation and keep these girls in the forefront of the world's attention, helping to keep the pressure on to bring them home. If I know anything, it's that anything is possible!" She then gave her students the opportunity to skip this month's session if the political statement was something they were uncomfortable with - No one moved.

Slager, along with her DFA students and Flash Mob America, invite southern California residents to join the movement and make their voices heard at the upcoming flash mob event, Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 1pm at an undisclosed location. Dancers, non-dancers, and everyone in between are welcome and encouraged to MOVE for change. Those interested in joining the Los Angeles Bring Back Our Girls Movement are encouraged to "like" the Facebook page (https://facebook.com/bringbackourgirlsmove) and send an email to bringbackourgirlsmovement ( @ ) gmail dot com to sign up for updates and top-secret location details dot

Dancing is not mandatory and all who would like to be a part of this event are encouraged to sign up and come out to support.

"I am personally done with a world that undermines, under-respects, sells, abuses, and denies equal rights to women and children. We must stand together...no matter where we live... where we come from... and BE the change," Slager explains.

Dance for Artists (DFA) is a monthly movement and dance workshop for artists looking to open up their creativity, artistic expression and joy, while getting acquainted with the body through physical movement and dance.

Flash Mob America is an organization whose sole purpose is to create Joy thru Surprise. By creating a joyful community, they hope to inspire the world to come together as ONE.
