  • Kokomo, IN (1888PressRelease) November 18, 2014 - The latest addition to Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series is Howard County Law Enforcement from author Tom Kelley. The book boasts more than 200 vintage and modern images chronicling the development and devotion of people, places, and events that has the evolution of law enforcement in Howard County.

"This little book is a tribute to all the men and women of the Kokomo Police Department, Howard County Sheriff's Department, and Indiana State Police who have placed the safety of Howard County residents above their own fortunes, comfort, and well-being. These officers, deputies and troopers have, for more than 100 years, been there for people on the worse days of their lives, when no one else would come and when no one else could help. Let none of us forget what they have done." Says Jon D Zeck, retired Howard County deputy sheriff. Jon also wrote a passionate and immersive introduction for Howard County Law Enforcement.

The book includes some official, declassified crime scene and accident investigation photographs that help illustrate the sometimes horrendous, sometimes humorous work of local law enforcement - many of which were donated for this project by retired law enforcement officers from various agencies within Howard County, as well as the Kokomo Tribune.

What lasting impact do you hope your book will leave?
It is my hope that Images of Howard County Law Enforcement will provide the reader with an entertaining and informative glimpse in to the challenges and sacrifices that Howard County law enforcement officers have endured. Their legacy is a bold tradition of courage, compassion and integrity that has become a core value among every trooper, deputy or police officer who serves the people of Howard County.

As they stand on the shoulders of those officers who have gone before them, it is now up to the contemporary generation of law enforcement officers to live up to the legacy that was left to them, and to now write their own unique history and leave a heritage that is worthy of future generations.
