  • (1888PressRelease) March 31, 2009 - Bowie, Maryland – ‘Hidden Wounds’, a new E-Book, by hospice specialist Janice Ervin targets individuals suffering through the emotional process of grief, and links bereavement to the physical body. Pointing to a variety of research findings which confirm debilitating physical effects it describes more than 25 common ailments often easily misdiagnosed due to lack of awareness. In addition, this E-Book reveals how those suffering can avoid negative health consequences through a variety of simplistic, holistic practices, to include blowing bubbles! The E-Book is free and immediately available for download at: http://www.janiceervin.com

According to Ms. Ervin, this E-Book provides a step-by-step explanation for the physical process which takes place in response to the emotional turmoil, wreaking havoc on the body and vital organs. This awareness allows us to take steps towards greater wellness, experience a sense of relief through understanding, and regain an element of control during a time which feels beyond our grasp in many respects.

“Grief is impossible to describe to someone who hasn’t been there… and those who have, wish they didn’t understand. Of course, at some point in our lives most of us will be faced with the experience of losing someone we love. This EBook shares how that special sorrow makes itself known in our body, and offers simple, natural solutions to relieve the detrimental physical effects.” -- Janice Ervin

Janice’s personal interest, research and volunteer efforts lead to intimate conversations with bereaved individuals. One coincidence to which she became increasingly sensitive was the host of physical ailments brought to light during this distressing period. Complaints survivors share include tightness in the chest and cardiac concerns, muscle pains, breathing ailments, changes in diet and weight fluctuations, nausea, headaches and sleep disturbances in addition to an aggravated level of common illnesses such as colds, flu and viruses.

Concern and a desire to learn of possible holistic counter defenses, led Janice toward lengthy in-depth investigation. Her findings uncovered multiple prior studies conducted, which link a decreased/reduced health level to the bereavement process. The guilty offender is identified as a heightened, perpetual level of stress. Additional exploration led her to studies which warn that the incessant cycle of grief, combined with the far-reaching physical manifestations can result in debilitating, even deadly consequences - pre existing conditions such as pre-cancer become acerbated and can even heighten in progression to a full blown state of disease.

“The stress induced by grief stands apart from any other stressful situation as death cannot be manipulated or changed. The gap created in its wake necessitates a continuous enfolding throughout the life of the survivor.”

Interestingly, she found that the consistent practice of simple holistic counter measures sends a ‘cease fire’ signal to the brain, successfully halting the devastating physical chain of events.

1.) Drink LOTS of water – During any stressful situation, toxins, cortisol, adrenaline, norpenepherine and bad fats are released into the bloodstream triggering a negative corporeal spiral. Drinking water flushes these toxins from your system, while providing much needed oxygen for your blood.
2.) Replenish 2 significantly depleted minerals - Calcium and Magnesium (Natural food source suggestions are offered for both)
3.) Increase Serotonin – Serotonin is greatly diminished during bereavement. (Natural food source suggestions include English walnuts, potato in skin, various cheeses, fruits and whole grains)
4.) Sleep – Herbal suggestions for a rest filled sleep include Chamomile, Valerian and Kava Kava teas
5.) Eat smaller portions – While oxygen is required to break down food, during bereavement oxygen stores are depleted. Small portions enable you to conserve much needed oxygen. In addition, during stress digestion slows and can even halt completely. Small portions enable greater stomach comfort.
6.) Eat Fresh Natural Foods – The blood stream floods with toxins during bereavement – eating fresh reduces the amount of new toxins introduced. In addition, it is advantageous to your body to break down natural fresh foods.
7.) Balance Body Glucose Levels – Watch for hidden sugars in canned goods and processed foods
8.) Assist Thyroid Function - through adequate Iodine intake. Suggestions include cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower.
9.) Assist Adrenal Function – through the incorporation of natural sources for vitamins B & C. Suggestions include a list of fresh fruits and vegetables.
10.) Rest, Meditate and Apply Mental Focus on Breath Work – How? Belly breathing! Simply sit still for 5 – 10 minutes, several times per day, while listening to relaxing music or the sounds of nature and focus on taking long slow deep breaths.
11.) Progressive Muscle Relaxation – Great discomfort can be found by toxins located within the legs, back, shoulders and neck. In addition, clenching the jaw muscle can result in face pain, headaches and even a ringing in the ears. Tense and Release the larger muscle groups within the body to mechanically ‘pump’ blood and toxins away from them.
12.) Weep – Bereavement is an internal process, while mourning is the outward expression. A natural and necessary action which combines these two facets is found in giving oneself permission to cry.
13.) Repetitive Prayer, Singing or Chanting – The brain reacts to sound input because information signals are able to travel from the outside environment, across action potentials and through the neural network into the brain bringing a sense of ease.
14.) Be gentle with yourself during this time – Minimize your stress by declining attendance to undesirable social functions; instead, share your precious energy and time among those with whom you feel comforted, loved and safe.
