  • Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2014 - Civil trial attorney and former prosecutor Denise H. Kim and commercial litigator Heather R. Potts, both of the The Kim Law Firm in Houston, have earned selection to the 2014 Texas Rising Stars list of the state's top young attorneys.

Published by Thomson Reuters' legal division, Texas Rising Stars recognizes the state's leading attorneys age 40 or younger and those who have been in practice for no more than 10 years.

"It speaks volumes about both Denise's and Heather's approach to the law that fellow professionals are recognizing them as two of Texas' up and coming attorneys," says John Kim, founder of The Kim Law Firm.

Ms. Kim has an impressive track record of trial wins in both criminal and civil courts. She also regularly defends attorneys facing State Bar of Texas disciplinary actions, including earning a 100 percent dismissal rate in the more than 20 grievances she has defended to date. This is the first time Ms. Kim has been selected to the exclusive list.

She also focuses on commercial litigation with an emphasis on complex business disputes. Ms. Kim's extensive litigation work includes cases involving construction defects, product and premises liability, insurance coverage and defense, derivative shareholder claims, Deceptive Trade Practices Act claims, breach-of-contract actions, trade-secret disputes, and oil and gas matters. She previously worked as an Assistant Harris County District Attorney, trying a variety of juvenile and welfare fraud cases.

Ms. Potts is a commercial litigator with extensive experience representing debtors, creditors, and trustees in bankruptcy matters. She has litigated exemption disputes, objections to discharge, and avoidance of preferential and fraudulent transfers. She also has secured approval of complex estate property sales. Beyond matters in the insolvency arena, Ms. Potts has represented parties in complex business disputes in both state and federal courts.

Her appellate experience includes successful oral argument before the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Potts also was selected to the 2012 and 2013 Texas Rising Stars lists.

Only 2.5 percent of eligible attorneys are chosen for Texas Rising Stars recognition each year. Selections are based on peer nominations and extensive editorial review. The complete listing of Texas Rising Stars appears in the May 2014 issues of Texas Monthly and Texas Rising Stars magazines. The list also can be found at www.superlawyers.com.

The Kim Law Firm has recovered more than half a billion dollars for clients through aggressive litigation and has also successfully defended clients against takings of at least a half a billion dollars. The firm represents entrepreneurs, business start-ups, mid-sized companies, and established national and international corporations in everything from contract and complex business disputes to insider trading allegations, trade secrets and other intellectual property disputes.
