  • (1888PressRelease) April 12, 2018 - DUBLIN – Host in Ireland, a strategic global initiative created to increase awareness of the benefits of hosting digital assets in Ireland, and winner of the Datacloud Europe 2016 award for Innovative Data Center Location, today announces the release of a new update to its report, “Ireland’s Data Hosting Industry 2018 Q1 Update.”  The research study, created in collaboration with Bitpower, builds on the baseline set out in its recent 2017 report addressing the sustainability of the Irish data industry.

Updating existing baseline statistics and information, the report examines the opportunities and risks associated with the digital asset hosting industry in Ireland.  With a thriving digital economy, the country serves as home to some of the biggest names in the tech industry, exporting $71 billion of ICT services in 2016 alone.  This new update reveals that of the four types of existing data centres in Ireland, including hyperscale, colocation wholesale, colocation and private, hyperscale facilities dominate the market with 74 percent of the total MW capacity, which has grown from 420 to 480 in the first quarter of 2018.  In addition, the report predicts that just over €1.1 billion will be invested in Irish data centre construction in 2018, reaching cumulative investment of €9 billion by 2021.

“By providing the industry with the most timely and accurate update on data centre activity throughout Ireland, we are helping to materialize the goal of creating a “Connected Planet,” enabling industry stakeholders to access the necessary information to continue investing in the Irish digital economy,” explains David McAuley, Founder and CEO, Bitpower, and Host in Ireland Advisory Council member.  “We believe this baseline will act as a useful reference for policymakers as Ireland continues its leadership in the creation, retention and exportation of digital assets, products and services.”

    About Host in Ireland
Host in Ireland, winner of the Datacloud Europe 2016 award for Innovative Data Center Location, is an industry-led marketing initiative that provides timely and accurate information about Ireland’s digital asset hosting ecosystem at all times including demonstrating why Ireland is more cost-effective, efficient, reliable, secure and accessible than most other regions across the EU.  There's a reason companies like Microsoft, Zendesk, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Adobe and beyond have sought to host their solutions in as well as to/from Ireland.  Many of these reasons are immediately realized due to access to affordable power, redundant network and bandwidth capacity along with a variety of data center providers that offer an array of services sustained by the “5 Ps”: Policy, People, Pedigree, Pipes, and Power.  On top of that is a very attractive business management structure, implemented by Ireland, which is keenly interested to bring new businesses into the market.  Ireland supports this initiative through its pro-business approach, attractive corporate tax and fiscal structures, common law based legal system, continued investment in off-Island fiber cables to the U.S. and Europe, financial support for data centre energy efficiency, and access to a skilled native English-speaking workforce - ensuring data asset compliance for companies large and small.  For more information about Host in Ireland, visit www.hostinireland.com.
