Previously, he was chief executive officer of Silicon Valley Bank, which was named by Forbes as one of the "100 Fastest-Growing Companies," during his tenure. He has also served as an advisor to a number of venture capital funds.

    He is also chair emeritus of the Entrepreneur's Foundation of Hawaii, chair of the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Hawaii and a board member of Aloha United Way and was chair of its 2012-2013 campaign.
