  • (1888PressRelease) January 25, 2012 - San Antonio, Texas - As politicians argue over a ticker tape parade for the veterans of the Iraq war, a San Antonio non profit has launched a high tech salute to the troops scheduled for February 1st 2012.

VA-PaTH is a non-profit that raises funds to house homeless veterans. Unique in that all costs and administration are paid for by the directors out of their own pockets, VA-PaTH director Sunny Singh was concerned to hear that a parade to welcome and salute the troops has become a political football.

"As a non-profit that puts all political considerations aside, we felt very strongly that we need to let the troops know we appreciate their sacrifice." says Sunny Singh, "We are using the social network Twitter to say thanks on February 1. Follow us ( @ ) tweettapeparade and tweet names, photos or just a message of thanks with the hash tag #twittertapeparade dot "

VA-PaTH launched a companion site to their main website at www.va-path.org to highlight this event. The Twitter Tape Parade website can be reached at www.twittertapeparade.org.

"Our gratitude to the troops is essential. As patriots they go wherever our government sends them regardless of ideology. When they return we should say thanks." Sunny Singh continued.

"This simple act will not cost anything and nor will it take much time, join us on February 1st. We ask that newspapers and publications as well as TV shows help us spread the word"

A Twitter parade is another unique and creative use of the social networking model. Social action is now the fastest growing segment of the social media market. VA-PaTH relies entirely on citizen funds to help house homeless veterans, provide food and training so the veterans can be self supporting. This includes helping veterans file paperwork to collect benefits to which they are entitled.
