Home Stager Reports That First Client Meeting Came Naturally

Top Quote Graduate of the Staging Diva Training Program, Susan O'Connor, shares the story of her first home staging consultation. End Quote
  • (1888PressRelease) September 27, 2011 - When Staging Diva Graduate Susan O'Connor left her corporate job to build her home staging business, she took a calculated risk not knowing how things would turn out. After finishing her first home staging client consultation, she contacted her trainer and mentor Debra Gould, The Staging Diva, to share her story with new home stagers. To spread the good news, Gould recently published O'Connor's experience in the Home Staging Business Report.

According to Gould, O'Connor's first concern was how she would handle her first sales call with a potential client. Although O'Connor felt confident about the kind of information she needed to convey, she still had a voice in her head asking whether she could make the sale. "I imagined having to make the 'sales pitch' to persuade the potential client of the benefits of home staging," says O'Connor. "Would I sound desperate? Would they sense my inexperience? Would I fumble at an answer to a question? How will I talk them into it?"

What O'Connor quickly realized was that people call because they're already interested in home staging. "I would possibly be the world's worst salesperson, but this was NOT sales as you think about it. This was explaining how home stagers help people, how the process works, and the cost involved," O'Connor explains. "But by the time I got to that part, all the client wanted to know was how fast I could get over there!"

While talking to the client, O'Connor remembered Gould's instructions to "let your passion show through," and that's what she did. "I never thought sales calls would be fun. In fact, I was practically dreading it, but it WAS fun and I want new stagers to know that," she says.

Next came the actual home staging consultation. "This must be what it feels like to be an actor who has rehearsed their lines, because once I got 'on stage' all my home staging training kicked in," Susan recalls. "The Staging Diva Training Program gave me everything I needed to walk in there completely confident that I could handle the job."
By sharing her story, O'Connor wants to show aspiring home stagers that they too can change their lives. "I hope to help someone feel more confident that they really can pursue their dreams!" says O'Connor.
